Do you ever feel so awful about something it completely immobilizes you? Perhaps you get "stuck" on the sins of your past, or the way you raised your children. Maybe you get hung up on words you've said or things you should "or" should not "be doing.

Guilt is the # 1 trick of the enemy. He uses it to stop us dead in our tracks! He knows that if he can convince us of how "bad" we are, he can stop us from not only seeing Christ, but he can stop us from believing Him. "Then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved." (Luke 8:12)

In John 10:10, Jesus warns us that "the thief comes to steal, and to kill and to destroy …" "His goal is to destroy your life and he does this by forcing you to believe lies. But know that "there is no truth in him … he is a liar, and the father of it." He will tell you that you're so deep in sin that God can not forgive you. He'll try to convince you that God does not love you, that you're the worst parent, wife, child, person. He will make you feel guilty about anything you allow him to – anything!

The only way to conquer guilty is to know the truth! The truth is you are free from sin and there is liberty in Christ Jesus! (Gal 5: 1) The truth is you are not perfect, and neither is anyone else! (Ro 3:23) The truth is Christ lives in you and gives you the power to conquer all obstacles. (Phil 4:13) The truth is God loves you – yes even YOU! (Jn 3:16)

So when the enemy attempts to make you feel guilty, quickly ACT:

Accept the Word of God as truth! When Jesus was tempted of the devil in Matthew 4, He consistently countered with "It is written …". Believe the Word – what says about you and what it says about Jesus! Find the Scriptures that speak to your particular situation and use them (in Jesus' name) to slay the enemy! In the name of Jesus rests all authority. At His name, every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that He is Lord (Phil 2: 10-11) Even the enemy is subject to Him – in fact, the devil trembles at His name. Speak the Word in Jesus' name every time the enemy attacks!

Call the enemy out! Eph 5:27 advises not to "give place to the devil". And James 4: 7 says to resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Do not allow the enemy access to your life! When you recognize his tactics, call him on it and resist his destruction. (And be sure to do it in the authority and the name of Jesus!)

Take your thoughts captive! A mind full of self-limiting and self-defeating thoughts is the breeding ground for guilt! Be careful of negative thoughts that begin with the following: "I can not", "I'm not", "I should not", "I regret", "I'm so". Take these thoughts captive! 2 Cor 10: 5 instructs to cast down vain imaginations and every "pretention" that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and bringing these thoughts into the obedience of Christ. In other words, align your thoughts with the Word!

Do not fall victim to the tactics of the enemy. Put on the whole armor of God so you'll be able to withstand in the evil day and "quench all the fiery darts of the wicked". (Eph 6: 13) You do not have to feel guilty about anything because you have been set free by the blood of the Lamb. And if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed! (Jn 8:36)
